Safety first.
That's the most important thing to keep in mind when handling and using epoxy materials. And that's what this site is all about.
First, take a look at Sam Devlin's article. Sam has built over 400 of the finest wooden boats in his shop on the pacific northwest, and he knows a thing or two about epoxy and how to handle it safely. His article is reprinted here from the MAS Epoxies catalog. Over the next few days we'll be posting numerous articles covering specific topics and safety issues, which we hope are helpful in your use of epoxies in all your projects.
If you're interested in really learning about these chemicals we rely upon to help build our boats (and planes, and repair our homes, cars and trucks) then David Carnell's article, Safe Boat Building, is a must-read.
Epoxy is so widely used for home repair, boatbuilding, woodworking, aircraft construction and repair, truck body repair and so much more that it's important to understand how to use it safely.
You can develop allergies to epoxy, rashes, and far more dangerous effects if you're not thoughtful and careful in your use of these remarkable materials. This is one of the reasons we like the MAS Epoxies products so much - no volatile organic compounds!
If you have tips you'd like to share, please do so - we're looking for more information to make the use of these materials safer, faster, and simply better. Click HERE to send us an email or an article.
We depend upon MAS Epoxies for technical advice. MAS manufactures F.L.A.G. and Rapid Cure epoxies, and specialize in low-VOC and no-blush epoxies. More information can be found HERE.
